Real Cases

1  Ms. Cao, 26 | Renovation pollution

Background

To move in before her wedding, Ms. Cao and her husband moved early into a new home that had been ventilated for 4 months. Although the new home had been aired out for some time, she, who had always valued health, decided to comprehensively assess her physical condition through MiMiTM urine metabolite testing.

Test Results and Analysis

The results showed that the levels of trans,trans-muconic acid and formic acid in Ms. Cao's urine were significantly elevated. These two substances are the urine metabolites of benzene and formaldehyde, respectively; benzene and formaldehyde are widely present in decoration materials such as coatings, paints, adhesives, and engineered wood, and long-term exposure may cause blood, nervous, and respiratory system problems, and even increase the risk of cancers such as leukemia.

Intervention Measures

Environmental testing:

Ms. Cao was advised to conduct a comprehensive air quality test of the new home to confirm the concentrations of pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and xylene.

Increase ventilation and temporarily move out:

Avoid living there long-term until pollutant concentrations decline.

Professional formaldehyde removal:

Address indoor formaldehyde with scientific methods to ensure air quality meets standards.

Regular monitoring:

Track her physical recovery through subsequent MiMiTM testing.

Outcomes

After a period of intervention, Ms. Cao underwent MiMiTM testing again, and the levels of trans,trans-muconic acid and formic acid in her urine had returned to normal, and the air quality test also met standards. She and her husband finally moved back into their new home with peace of mind, starting a healthy new life!

2  Ms. Li, 35 | Occupational exposure

Background

Ms. Li is a professional beautician who frequently handles aniline-based hair dyes at work. Recently she experienced symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, and skin allergies, and decided to undergo MiMiTM testing.

Test Results and Analysis

The test results showed that Ms. Li's urine contained aniline, the main component of aniline-based hair dyes. During hair dyeing, aniline can enter the body through the hair medulla, skin, or respiration, and is toxic, potentially causing skin allergies and even leading to hemolytic anemia, liver and kidney damage, and other health problems.

Intervention Measures

Reduce the frequency of hair dyeing:

Lower the frequency of exposure to toxic substances.

Choose safe hair dyes:

Choose aniline-free hair dyes to reduce the risk of exposure to toxic substances.

Strengthen workplace protection:

Improve ventilation at work and wear gloves and masks to reduce direct contact.

Regular checkups and monitoring:

Continuously monitor the metabolic levels of harmful substances.

Outcomes

After 3 months of intervention, Ms. Li underwent MiMiTM testing again, and the aniline content in her urine had significantly decreased. Symptoms such as fatigue and skin allergies improved markedly, and her physical condition improved substantially!
