Focusing on the medical frontier of precision diagnosis and treatment of glioma, breaking down the barriers between basic medicine and drug development and clinical medicine, and giving play to the leading role of basic medical research achievements in rapid medical translation. From August 12 to 14, 2022, the 2nd Xiongan Glioma Basic and Translational Medicine Forum, hosted by the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the Chinese Neuroscience Society, was grandly held in Baoding, Hebei Province. At the same time, the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the Chinese Neuroscience Society and the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association Medical Doctor Association were held concurrently. Dr. Li Jie, Director of the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Clinical Multi-omics and CEO of ProteinT, was invited to attend and give a report, bringing new technologies and new concepts based on multi-omics. Renowned experts in the clinical field of brain glioma in China and senior scholars in basic research directions shared and discussed technical support platforms around deep analysis and mining of clinical resources, biomarker and new drug development, and molecular pathology and imaging technology research, playing an important role in truly building translational medicine research—a complete technical chain combining upstream and downstream, from basic to clinical.

In recent years, clinical and scientific researchers have explored various aspects including experimental research, targeted immunotherapy, and combination therapies, achieving important progress in the field of glioma, deepening the medical community's understanding of glioma occurrence, and laying the foundation for developing precise and effective treatments. In this forum, Professor Kang Chunsheng of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital and President Fang Chuan of the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University served as the initiators of the conference, inviting experts and scholars in the field of brain glioma in China to share the latest research progress. The following lists some of the speakers and sample topics to share with everyone. First, Professor Tan Yanli of the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University provided a detailed interpretation of the updated content of the glioma classification in the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System. Subsequently, Professor Zhong Yanfeng of Peking University Health Science Center and Professor Piao Yueshan of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University shared respectively on the pathological diagnosis differentiation and practice of clinically difficult glioma cases; Professor Li Hao of the National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases reported on the topic "Multi-omics, the Arrival of a New Era," emphasizing the importance of multi-omics in clinical tumor research and translation; Professor You Yongping of Jiangsu Province Hospital shared on "Scientific Research Reflections Based on Whole-Process Management of Brain Glioma," analyzing hot topics in the glioma diagnosis and treatment workflow from a research perspective. Professor Li Gang of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University shared "Whole-Process Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Glioma—the Qilu Model," developing in practice personalized precision diagnosis and treatment suited to patients, from molecular subtyping, targeted medication, radiotherapy and chemotherapy regimens, to prognosis assessment. Professor Tong Xiaoguang of Tianjin Huanhu Hospital and Professor Mao Qing of West China Hospital of Sichuan University shared from the perspective of surgical strategies for different types and different grades of brain glioma.

In addition, there were basic research scholars from various universities and research institutes, such as Professor Wang Qianghu, Professor Wang Xiuxing, and Professor Qian Xu of Nanjing Medical University; Professor Feng Haizhong of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Professor Chen Yongbin of the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Xie Qi of Westlake University; Professor Wang Yuan and Professor Zhao Linju of Sichuan University; Professor Wu Xudong and Professor Chang Guoqiang of Tianjin Medical University, and others, who shared and discussed progress from the perspectives of basic science including the mechanisms of glioma occurrence and development, the function of tumor genomics research in the tumor microenvironment, tumor nutrient metabolism, tumor stem cells and targeted therapy, and immune abnormalities of the nervous system and related diseases, completing a truly meaningful feast for the eyes and ears of the scientific community.

Dr. Li Jie, Director of the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Clinical Multi-omics and CEO of ProteinT, gave a presentation titled "Clinical Application of Association Analysis of Tissue-Blood Individualized Molecular Characteristics in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Glioma," proposing new methods and new concepts in the process of glioma molecular diagnosis. Dr. Li Jie pointed out that the laboratory has accumulated a rich database in the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and translation of glioma, and, using multi-omics technologies, provides clinical reference information with core scientific value for glioma patients' molecular subtyping, targeted medication, radiotherapy and chemotherapy regimens, prognosis assessment, and exploration of patients' individualized tumor occurrence and development mechanisms. Moreover, relying on ProteinT's independently developed nanoscale enrichment-based protein mass spectrometry liquid biopsy technology, it has broken the bottleneck constraining the development of proteomics technology, achieving the identification and quantitative analysis of 4000+ blood proteins from a single sample within one hour using microliter-level blood volume. It can obtain in-depth and precise biological information more non-invasively, and is currently conducting the development and application of more precise common tumor products. The related research results aroused great interest and discussion among the attending experts and brought more possibilities for subsequent industry-university-research translation and the precision diagnosis and treatment of common tumors including glioma.

The development of clinical translational medicine cannot be achieved without continuous cooperation and breakthroughs. At the conclusion of the conference, President Fang Chuan stated that the treatment of glioma is still full of challenges, and more exploration is needed on how to overcome tumor heterogeneity and immunosuppressive states, find safe and effective targets and markers, and optimize clinical trial design. He hoped that this professional academic exchange would serve as a platform to continuously explore the precision diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of glioma and to promote the application of more innovative technologies in clinical practice. As the 2nd Xiongan Glioma Basic and Translational Medicine Forum concluded successfully, based on the platform of the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Clinical Multi-omics, ProteinT is also willing to carry out research with more universities and scientific research institutions, jointly promoting the realization of technology and product translation, and is committed to applying leading technologies to the clinical diagnosis and treatment of common tumors and chronic diseases!
