Proteomics Committee of the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Director Xu Ping

At the start of the conference, Director Xu Ping extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the friends who participated in this forum and who care about the clinical development of proteomics, and said in his address: “Proteomics stands at the frontier of life science research and has made remarkable progress in recent years, most notably represented by the international big science program ‘Human Proteome Navigation’ (‘π-Hub Program’) initiated by Academician He Fuchu and other scientists, which has global influence. This program is actively promoting the comprehensive development of proteomics-related technologies, enabling faster and more accurate exploration of the important roles of proteins in life, and ultimately applying proteomics research results to all fields of clinical medicine to contribute to human health. While proteomics technology demonstrates its powerful functional advantages and is almost reaching the patient’s bedside, it faces issues such as being more complex and less stable than traditional clinical methodologies, and the road to ‘clinical admission’ requires crossing multiple key nodes similar to those experienced by genomics. These issues require our joint efforts, collective wisdom and a search for solutions. Through today’s conference, I hope we can pool our collective wisdom and strength to take a solid step toward promoting the clinical application of proteomics technology!”

Forum Summary

Academician He Fuchu, National Center for Protein Sciences (Beijing)

In his closing remarks, Academician He Fuchu fondly reviewed the path of exploration from genetics to proteomics, pointing out that proteomics, with its unique perspective and methods, takes on life science problems that genomics and transcriptomics struggle to answer, revealing new mechanisms such as cholesterol metabolism reprogramming that traditional omics cannot reach. He emphasized that the current state of proteomics is like “learning elementary school Chinese and arithmetic”—although elementary, it has already demonstrated powerful potential beyond traditional omics, and is the “poetry and distant place” of precision medicine.

Academician He stated that proteomics is not only the future of science, but also a key force for achieving mastery and great undertakings and for driving national and epochal progress. He called on all forces to join hearts and hands to jointly nurture this “ugly yet infinitely possible newborn”—proteomics—so that it can grow strong, achieve the brilliance of the “π-HuB Program,” and contribute to human health and the future of humanity.

The successful holding of the first special forum on “Clinical Admission of Proteomics” marks a solid step forward in the deep integration of proteomics and clinical practice. Just as Academician He firmly believes: I hope this conference becomes the “Jiaxing Meeting” for the clinical admission of proteomics, focused in heart and innovative in action. Let all colleagues in the industry join hands to march toward the “poetry and distant place” of proteomics.
