[Industry Watch] A Tianjin Sample of AI + Healthcare: How ProteinT Uses “Multi-Omics + AI” to Enter the Early-Screening Track
Published: 2026-07-20

Today's Tianjin Daily published an article titled "Computing Power as the Foundation, Scenarios as Empowerment: How Tianjin Positions Itself in the AI Industry," which systematically maps out Tianjin's path in the AI industry — in the first half of the year, the number of large models and AI agents surpassed 200, and core enterprises' revenue exceeded RMB 36 billion, as bottom-layer computing power and upper-layer scenarios converge at an accelerating pace. The article mentions ProteinT, which deserves attention from the industry. Its self-developed "Full-Molecule Signal AI Analysis Platform" is not a single-point tool, but a multimodal AI model system covering genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Its core capabilities are reflected in two dimensions: first, detection throughput — a single run can simultaneously analyze 114 blood-lipid indicators and 39 metabolites, greatly improving clinical screening efficiency; second, diagnostic accuracy — in ultra-early screening of liver cancer and other pan-cancer indications, the accuracy exceeds 98%, reaching the threshold for clinical-grade application. As "AI + healthcare" moves from proof-of-concept to large-scale deployment, ProteinT's technological path represents a typical play in the high-barrier direction of multi-omics data plus deep learning. For investors following the commercialization pace of medical AI and regional industry clusters, this is a local example worth adding to their watch list.

The accelerating iteration of artificial intelligence has become an important engine for Tianjin's development of new quality productive forces. According to the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, in the first half of this year the number of various AI large models and AI agents across the city exceeded 200, doubling from the end of last year; revenue of basic and core enterprises exceeded RMB 36 billion, up more than 20% year on year, showing strong momentum.

Since the beginning of this year, Tianjin has systematically reviewed high-quality innovation resources in the AI field — enterprises, universities and research institutes, innovation platforms and talent teams — completed a city-wide map of AI innovation resources, and identified 185 key technological research directions. "Our city is driving the overall upgrade of the AI industry through scientific and technological innovation, focusing on key areas such as AI chips, basic software, intelligent computing power and intelligent terminals, pooling resources to tackle core technologies, and continuously opening up the key links of technology implementation and industrial transformation," said Zhang Yanyun, Director of the Intelligent Technology Division of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau.

Computing power is the foundation of the AI industry and the core competitiveness of a city in seizing the future intelligent-industry track.

Taking a long-term view, Tianjin has proactively laid out frontier fields such as quantum computing and space computing power, accelerating the construction of a multi-coordinated computing system of "quantum computing + supercomputing + intelligent computing + space computing." On May 29, the Exchange Meeting on AI Innovation and Space Digital-Intelligence Facility Development was held in Tianjin, where industry leaders and research institutions including the China Academy of Space Technology, the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin, Phytium, Kylin and CETC Blue Sky joined hands to establish a joint research body for space digital-intelligence infrastructure, carrying out joint research on key technologies and exploring a new development path of deep integration of aerospace information, advanced computing and artificial intelligence.

"Compared with traditional supercomputing, quantum computing has significant advantages in microscopic quantum-system simulation such as molecular simulation, new-material R&D and chemical reaction deduction, as well as in solving large-scale combinatorial optimization problems. We are actively seizing the frontier track and accelerating the layout of quantum-super-intelligence integrated computing power," said a relevant person in charge of the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. In May this year, the Center launched the "New-Generation Tightly-Coupled Quantum-Super-Intelligence Computing System Research Program," marking an important step in the city's innovation of multi-computing convergence.

On a solid foundation of computing power, the continuous innovation of algorithm models enables AI to leave the laboratory and take root and flourish across all industries.

In the field of "AI + research," local scientific research models have surpassed 30. The National Supercomputing Internet Platform launched the country's first scientific computing agent and built the country's largest heterogeneous computing resource pool, gathering more than 580 research tools and models. The National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin, together with the Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR) of Tsinghua University, released GalaxyVS, an AI virtual screening platform for ultra-large-scale drug discovery, shortening the early drug-screening process that traditionally takes months or even years to tens of seconds. In the field of "AI + healthcare," ProteinT independently developed the Full-Molecule Signal AI Analysis Platform, which can detect 114 blood-lipid indicators and 39 metabolites in one run, enabling ultra-early screening of liver cancer and other pan-cancer indications with accuracy exceeding 98%. In the field of "AI + elderly care," Leling Health Care self-developed a vertical large model for chronic diseases of the elderly, which has been selected for several national smart elderly-care pilot projects.

Amid the vigorous development of scenario applications, local enterprises are reinforcing and extending the chain, and the clustering effect of the city's AI industry continues to be unleashed. Sugon released the first fully self-developed 400G lossless high-speed network scaleFabric, whose performance rivals top international products in the same category. Tianjin Nika Optics' world-first million-unit automated production line for volume holographic optical waveguides was officially put into operation, providing important support for the city's cultivation of tracks such as AR (augmented reality) and in-vehicle intelligent display. Tianjin Tier Technology's single-phase immersion liquid-cooling technology has reached an internationally advanced level, and it has formed full-chain delivery capabilities from core hardware to large intelligent-computing centers, landing eight benchmark liquid-cooled intelligent-computing projects nationwide.

Leveraging its full-chain advantages, Tianjin has also seized the development wave of embodied intelligence, and its humanoid-robot industry is gathering momentum. Recently, the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) formally signed a memorandum of cooperation with the humanoid-robot leader UBTECH Robotics Corp., Ltd., which will locate core projects such as a northern intelligent-manufacturing base for humanoid simulation robots, an embodied-intelligence industry innovation center, a robot operation-and-maintenance service center and a secondary-development platform in Tianjin. During the 2026 World Intelligence Industry Expo, Unitree Robotics signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Tianjin Municipal Government and TEDA, and will carry out in-depth cooperation in scenarios and R&D by leveraging Tianjin's advantages in talent, industry and port resources.

A humanoid robot usually carries dozens of joint modules, which are the core components determining the device's load-bearing performance and service life. As a key part of the joint module, the reducer plays an important role in controlling the precision and power output of the whole machine.

In the production workshop of Tianjin Qiling Electromechanical Technology Co., Ltd., about 500 reducers come off the line every day. "Our cycloidal reducers, mechatronic modules, high-precision reducers and other products have been recognized by a number of local enterprises such as Atonom, Langyu and Galileo, and Shanghai Zhuoyide Robot has also proactively approached us, hoping to use 'Tianjin-made' core joints to drive the iteration and upgrading of its own products," said Han Yanyan, the company's marketing director.

From bottom-layer computing power and core hardware to scenario applications and terminal manufacturing, Tianjin's full-chain innovation breakthroughs in the AI industry have won national recognition. This year, six of the city's projects won the 2025 Wu Wenjun Award for Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology, the highest number in recent years, vividly confirming the abundant innovation vitality and solid industrial strength of Tianjin's AI industry.

At present, the 2026 Tianjin Municipal Guidelines for Major Science and Technology Projects in Artificial Intelligence have entered the stage of demonstration and public consultation and will be officially released soon. The Municipal Science and Technology Bureau stated that Tianjin will focus on key areas such as "AI + information technology application innovation," computing platforms, embodied intelligence and industry-scenario applications, encourage enterprises to increase R&D investment, deepen industry-university-research collaborative innovation and industry-chain joint research, and continue to promote the deep integration of AI technological innovation and industrial innovation, so as to help the city's intelligent technology industry achieve high-quality and steady development.
